In 2014, the Board of Directors of the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging decided to broaden the vision and mission of the organization and effective November 24, 2014 now operates as Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc.

Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. (CVACL) envisions a community where all individuals, regardless of age or disability, maintain independence, dignity, equal rights, and a meaningful life based on their own personal choices.  The organization will actively engage in the mission of supporting older adults and adults with disabilities to live in accordance with these principles.

The Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. serves individuals age 60 and over, also those 18 or over living with a disability in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell and the City of Lynchburg. Each program works within its own eligibility requirements and budget limitations.

CVACL will continue to operate as the local designated Area Agency on Aging.  Programming at CVACL will expand to include evidence-based disease prevention and active aging initiatives. Long time programming such as Meals on Wheels for Seniors and Dial-A-Ride Transportation will continue. New programing such as OPTIONS Counseling and “Take Charge”, a Care Transitions Model, will continue to grow and thrive.
